The issue of “immigration” is immensely complex. There is a rich history of national and foreign policies which, when combined with a confluence of historical events, give rise to the contemporary state of affairs. Debate on the issue is highly polarized – with strong rhetoric bolstering diametrically opposed sides.
So how are we supposed to navigate the nuance of this issue in this climate?
The following resources are a start. Reading through this information will help you gain an awareness of the issues on the table – and what is at stake. This information will, in turn, help you to discern how you can to best help shape a more just, equitable, and sustainable immigration system.
Our resources are divided into two main sections: background and church teaching. Links to additional resources are found in each section.
The Coalition also offers an array of additional educational opportunities for our parish and the larger community. These programs range from ongoing speaker series to facilitated discussions on specific advocacy issues to intensive 5-10 week courses on emergent issues of justice and peace. For more information on these, please see our Education page.
You may also want to refer back to the “Frequently Asked Questions” page and our “Resources” page which contains links to our partners, publications, and related links.
