Bread for the World is a nationwide Christian movement that seeks justice for the world's hungry people by lobbying our nation's decision makers.

Cathoilic Voice NC is a nonpartisan advocacy cooperative of the Catholic Dioceses of Charlotte and Raleigh.  Representing the 800,000+ Catholics in NC, Catholic Voice NC seeks to address the public square where policy and church teaching intersect.

Children's Defense Fund's mission is to Leave No Child Behind® and to ensure every child a Healthy Start, a Head Start, a Fair Start, a Safe Start, and a Moral Start in life and successful passage to adulthood with the help of caring families and communities.

Coalition on Human Needs is an alliance of national organizations working together to promote public policies which address the needs of low-income and other vulnerable populations.

Emergency Campaign for America's Priorities (ECAP) is a nationwide campaign of national and grassroots organizations committed to reversing the Administration’s policy of drastic cuts to programs that primarily benefit the poor and middle class in order to finance tax cuts that benefit the wealthy and special interests.

Franciscan Action Network (FAN) is a grassroots, faith-based legislative advocacy organization with a growing national base of organizations and persons who are inspired by the witness and example of St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi.  FAN's work is presently supported by 41 Franciscan organizations throughout the United States as it works to build a base of persons who can propel this movement forward.  FAN's mission is to bring a coordinated and effective voice to matters of justice, peace and care for creation to Washington, D.C., throughout the U.S., and beyond.

Friends Committee on National Legislation is a nation-wide network of Quakers and like-minded people who work together to bring Friends' values to bear on public policy in our nation's capital.

Jubilee USA Network is part of a worldwide movement to cancel the crushing international debt of impoverished countries by the new millennium.

The National Policy and Advocacy Council on Homelessness (NPACH) is dedicated to ending homelessness through grassroots advocacy and inclusive partnerships.

Nuclear Reduction/Disarmament Initiative is sponsoring a an urgent call for people of faith to endorse a statement calling the United States and Russia to fulfill their commitments under the Nonproliferation Treaty and move together with the other nuclear powers, step by carefully inspected and verified step, to the abolition of nuclear weapons.

Progressive Challenge - Articulates an agenda for America that engages Congresspeople, activists, scholars, and citizens in a national debate and struggle for progressive priorities at the state, local, and national level.

National Priorities Project has extensive data on federal budget trade-offs and how federal budget and tax priorities affect states.

Oxfam America is dedicated to finding long-term solutions to poverty, hunger, and social injustice around the world. NETWORK is a sponsor of Oxfam's "Fast for a World Harvest" campaign. Also, visit www.hungerbanquet.org, an interactive online learning tool that illustrates the root causes of poverty and hunger in the world.

Social Justice

Call To Action USA is an independent national organization of over 20,000 people and 40 local organizations who believe the Spirit of God is at work in the whole church, not just in its appointed leaders. "We believe the entire Catholic church has the obligation of responding to the needs of the world and taking initiative in programs of peace and justice." Be sure to check their web site for up-to-date information about registering for their upcoming conference, which will take place November 2-4, 2007. They are celebrating the beginning of their next 30 years of Call to Action.

Catholic Campaign for Human Development is the domestic anti-poverty, social justice program of the U.S. Catholic bishops. Its mission is to address the root causes of poverty in America through promotion and support of community-controlled, self-help organizations and through transformative education.

Catholic Charities, U.S.A. is the largest private network of social service organizations in the United States. They work to support families, reduce poverty, and build communities.  See also Catholic Charities of North Carolina.

Catholic Health Association - Under CHA's leadership, leaders from the U.S. Catholic community have launched an advertising and grassroots campaign to urge the President and Congress to restore Medicare, Medicaid, and other human services funding vital to maintaining high-quality health services in this country.

Center for Healthcare Reform - is a catalyst and partner with others in advocating for a just national healthcare system. Their Web site provides valuable resources and community action suggestions, including information about The Prayer Tent for Children’s Health Care. Invite your faith community to reflect, pray and act for justice for children. Join others in addressing the needs of the more than nine million children without health insurance. Designed as a six-week program, the prayer tent and bulletin inserts create a space where family and friends can reflect on and discuss the need for a healthcare system that serves all our nation’s children.

Center of Concern works with international networks promoting social analysis, theological reflection, policy analysis, political advocacy, research and public education on issues of global development, peace and social justice.

Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) is a canonically approved membership organization which exists as a support system and corporate voice for leaders of institutes of women religious (Catholic sisters) in the United States. The purpose of the Conference is to promote an understanding of the religious life of Catholic sisters in the United States through its service to religious leaders.

OurHealthcareFuture.org is a national grassroots effort—including a NETWORK Education Program—that created a pilot-tested, turn-key tool that helps host organizations bring together a cross-section of a community for a daylong dialogue on vision and priorities for the future of U.S. healthcare.

Pax Christi USA strives to create a world that reflects the Peace of Christ by exploring, articulating, and witnessing to the call of Christian nonviolence.

U.S. Catholic Conference, Social Development and World Peace Office is the national public policy agency of the U.S. Catholic Bishops. The Department has two permanent offices: Domestic Social Development and International Justice and Peace.

State of North Carolina

The state government in North Carolina is divided into three branches.  The legislative body of the state of NC is the General Assembly.  If you live in the state of North Carolina, you can find it who your representatives are by clicking here.  The executive branch is comprised by the Governor and his/her (appointed) cabinet and the (elected) Council of State.  Finally, the judicial branch is made up by the NC Court System.

The advocacy of the Franciscan Coalition, at the state level, occurs primarily at the legislative level.  For more information about the NC State Government, click here.

U.S. Government

Like the state of NC, the federal government is divided into the legislative, executive, and judicial branches.  The legislative body is the U.S. Congress, composed of the House of Representatives and the Senate.  NC representatives in the House of Representatives can be found here.  In the Senate, the state of NC is represented by Sen. Richard Burr and Sen. Elizabeth Dole.  More information about our Senators can be found here.
