Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (Durham, NC) – Social Concerns Committee
Immaculate Conception is a “sister parish” of sorts. Located in nearby Durham, this parish shares a common Franciscan heritage. Consequently, there is significant overlap in our organizing and advocacy efforts – though we each endeavor to serve our respective communities.
Durham CAN & the Industrial Areas Foundation
The community organizing efforts of Industrial Areas Foundation-affiliate Durham CAN are unparalleled in the state of North Carolina. We maintain a close working relationship with Durham CAN that we might learn from their many successes and build political capital in the Triangle.
Justice Theater Project
The Justice Theater Project (JTP) had its origins in the imagination and initiative of a small group of St. Francis parishioners. While the JTP has grown rapidly and since become a separately-incorporated entity, the Franciscan Coalition continues to closely partner with and support this innovative enterprise. The aim of JTP is to use the dramatic arts as a tool for advocacy and activism on behalf of the poor, the marginalized, and the oppressed.

While a separately-incorporated ministry, CITCA has its roots in the Catholic Community of St. Francis. The San Damiano Foundation produces films and photography that showcase the active and contemplative dimensions of the spirituality of St. Francis and Clare of Assisi, along with the Franciscan concern for social justice, peace and non-violence. As you can see from the stirring photos on this site, they put the power of photography and film at the service of those most in need.
