To apply for a grant from The Poverello Fund, please carefully read the Grant Criteria, Conditions, and Requirements below. Specific application instructions then follow.

Grant Criteria
- Grants must arise directly from the social teachings of the Catholic Church, with a particular emphasis on the mission and Franciscan charism of the Catholic Community of St. Francis of Assisi .
- Grants of a “charity/service” orientation must provide direct assistance with an emphasis on empowering those being 'served'.
- Grants of a “justice/advocacy” orientation must specifically and overtly promote the social teaching of the Catholic Church, with a demonstrated respect for and desire to work with all people of faith and good will.
- All proposed projects/programs must be submitted by an active member of the Catholic Community of St. Francis of Assisi and directly involve St. Francis parishioners by providing specific volunteer opportunities.
Grant Conditions & Requirements
- Priority will be given to projects that originate from, are authored by, and/or involve parishioners of the Catholic Community of St. Francis of Assisi.
- Preference will be given to new or innovative programs/projects that address issues in a new way, expand/enhance successful projects/programs, and/or engage and involve new individuals/communities in the ministry of social justice.
- Grants that endeavor to address issues with a two-fold approach of “charity/service” and “justice/advocacy” are especially encouraged.
- Grant Application and Project Budget must be complete and received by the specified deadlines(s). Incomplete and late applications will not be considered.
- Any qualifications or conditions placed on a grant must be fulfilled prior to the disbursement of funds.
- Grants must be spent as described in the Grant Application.
- An annual Progress Report and Project Accounting are required.
- Any unspent grant money must be returned to the Poverello Fund.
- Grants will not be awarded for the following: capital expenses, on-going “ordinary expenses” of an existing ministry or organization, salaries/benefits, sub-grants to other organizations, or scholarships.
Application Instructions
- Complete the Grant Application Form and the Project Budget Form. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
- When completed, send the entire package electronically to coalition(at)stfrancisraleigh.org with the subject line “GRANT APPLICATION” in all caps.
Printed applications will only be accepted under exceptional circumstances; requests of this nature should be directed to the Poverello Fund Administrator.
