The mission of the Franciscan Coalition is rooted in the mission of the Catholic Community of St. Francis of Assisi (Raleigh, NC), which states:
“We believe that our earth and all life is sacred, that all people are gifted with God’s grace and called to build God’s kingdom on earth. We believe that kingdom is a kingdom of justice and peace, faith and hope, love and acceptance. That kingdom belongs to the least among us.
We reach out in a special way to those who hunger and thirst for human dignity: the poor, suffering and oppressed people in our community and in our world.”
Out of the parish's mission flows the mission of the Coalition:
Based on Catholic Social Teaching and Franciscan tradition, the mission of the Franciscan Coalition for Justice and Peace is to educate, motivate, and organize Catholics and people of faith to affect social change through solidarity, advocacy, and service.
At the core of our mission is the recognition of the essential and indissoluble unity that exists between faith and politics. We seek to embrace the public dimension of our faith to address the social systems which create and perpetuate disparity, inequality, and violence. We seek to prophetically proclaim that another, better world is at our finger tips. We seek to bear witness to the work of God, which has made and makes this better world a possibility and a reality...
