Advocacy and Public Policy: Empowerment for Change
This session will offer an overview of the current scope of federal legislation (national food policies, US foreign aid) and an orientation to advocating for a system responsive to the needs of the hungry.
The session will be facilitated by Sr. Margaret Mary of Bread for the World.
Sr. Margaret Mary Kimmins has extensive leadership experience and a distinguished track record of working for social justice internationally.
Sr. Kimmins is the President Pro Tempore of the International Board of Directors for Franciscans International, a General Consultative non-governmental organization at the United Nations. She is also President of the Franciscan Action Network, a faith-based grassroots advocacy organization representing 41 Franciscan organizations throughout the U.S. attempting to bring a coordinated and effective voice to matters of justice, peace and care for creation to decision makers in Washington, D.C.
A member of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegheny, she has served as the Minister General of her religious community and currently works in Religious Community Outreach for Bread for the World.
